MONDAY’S PLAYLIST

“Possibilities hide in all of us, but so often we don’t carve out quiet places to let our minds wander into them. Listening in the quiet, listening to ideas - this might be the most important practice for any creator.”

PICK UP THE CAMERA

When I purchased my Canon T5i a couple years ago, the main focus was video. As each month passed, I became a little more guilt-ridden that I hadn’t been utilizing this awesome tool for what it was primarily made for. I decided that this past weekend was the perfect opportunity to flex the shutterbug muscle in me and spend an early evening pursuing creativity in a way that I’ve ignored for far too long.

THE PATH FORWARD

A year ago, I was enthusiastic and motivated for what the year ahead might bring. Creativity creates a vast and exciting landscape and I was seeing it everywhere. There were constant sources of inspiration. I wanted to explore and learn and share.

At the same time, I was a ball of stress. Thoughts of frustration and concern constantly crept into my head. I felt the heavy hand of self-doubt and was overwhelmed with all that was on my plate.

I head into the final weeks of this year knowing that my path forward in 2021 must be different than the one I leave behind in the rearview mirror.

WHAT IS ‘BRETT MILES CREATIVE’?

I started this site for a number of reasons. Mainly, I wanted a “home base” for the content I create and discover in this vast world - social posts that catch my eye, photos that make my jaw drop, articles that leave me thinking and people who inspire me.

I wanted a place to refine my skills and try new things - building this site is one of them. Blog posts, videos, photos, podcasts…the doors are wide open with possibilities.

You can call this site a “living resume”. A place for people to see what I can achieve and at the same time show myself what I’m capable of.

WHAT I’VE DONE…AND WHAT I DO

For close to 25 years, I’ve been a part of the video production industry here in Calgary, Alberta. I started as a news editor in 1997 and moved on to post-production editing in the early 2000’s. Since 2009, I have been a Producer, Director and Editor at Spruce Meadows (a world-class equestrian facility) and Cavalry FC (the professional soccer team that launched in 2019).
